Breckenridge Ice Show Sculptures

Bringing life to snow and ice, every January the town of Breckenridge hosts the International Snow Sculpture Championships. The competition consists of multiple teams from around the world who battle it out for the top snow sculpture in town.

The event is FREE and always has been open to the general public. Taking place from Monday through Wednesday, January 20th to January 29th, 2025, visitors will find the sculptures at 150 West Adams Avenue in the area around the Riverwalk Center.

To compete, sculptors must hand-carve 20-ton blocks of snow into enormous, detailed works of art. But the real challenge is the sculptors are only allowed to use hand tools to create their masterpieces; no power tools are allowed! Slowly chipping away over five days, teams reveal their works of art in hopes of being crowned snow sculpture champions.

Cowboy Downhill – Steamboat Springs | January

Steamboat celebrates its 49th annual Cowboy Downhill, one of the most unique ski racing events in Colorado. It invites competitive cowboys from all over to strap on their skis and race to the base.

This year it will be held on Monday, January 20th, 2025. Professional rodeo cowboys are invited from as far away as Canada and New York. Cowboys race each other two at a time, with the best overall time winning.

Durango’s Annual Snowdown – February

Each winter, the normally quiet mountain town of Durango comes alive with festivities designed to keep the spirits high during cold days and long nights. Snowdown is easily one of Colorado’s best multi-day festivals, regardless of the season.

Snowdown returns this year with a 2025 Theme “The Board Game Edition: It’s Your Move”. Festivities run from Friday to Sunday, January 24 – February 2, 2025, marking its 46th year since 1979.

The festival got its start like many other Colorado winter events: as a way to get through the dog days of the coldest part of the year. In 1979, John Murrah convinced The Durango Herald to seed his vision for a commerce-boosting celebration. They gave $2,000 and the legendary Snowdown was born.
